My dad--who I don't have to tell you works underground, but who you might not know spends 6 days a year in Blacksburg for mine rescue--asked me if I was taking a gun to class tomorrow. He was 99.99% kidding and 275% sad, which feels just and proportionate by me. VT is populationally and rurally similar to my campus, so this all shatters me in ways so numerous they're taking numbers right now. Ways that are eating samples on toothpicks and browsing the magazine racks as they wait.

The big Researched Essay is due Tuesday, so many of my students will be pulling all-nighters in order to get things tip-top for me. I talk a lot of shit about my kids, but, Jesus, they're really the best. Really. Pizza's on me tomorrow, brats.

As I write this, I am watching the Denver news. Denver, as you might know, is where Littleton is. Littleton, as you might know, is home to Columbine high school. Their principal is all over the news this evening.
I've actually thought about this alot - every time I give some roid-stoked athlete a "D" or the fail the chairman of the BOT's daughter because she stops coming to class in October, I worry that my office will be stop #1 on the tour of terror.
But this is fucking tragic. Guy's girlfriend wants to fuck somone else and 32 people have to die? What the hell? What the fuck? What the? What the fuck is wrong with men? If I can't have her, no one can, and by the way, you 32 other innocent victims, fuck you too.
Man. I've got to have another drink and watch The Daily Show.
